How articles are made
Articles are researched and drafted with the help of AI. An AI system reads the full paper, evaluates it against our published rating rules, and drafts the article. A second, independent AI reading rates every claim separately, and a claim the two readings rate two tiers apart is held rather than published. The editor reads and approves every article before it goes out, and is responsible for everything we publish.
Sources
- We write only from papers we have read in full. We never report a study from its abstract or press release alone.
- We get papers legally: open-access copies, copies the authors send us, or publisher press access. We do not use pirate sites.
- We honor embargoes.
- We report numbers and findings in our own words. We reproduce figures or tables only when the licence allows it.
- Authors do not see or approve our articles before publication.
Naming coverage
When a headline, press release or scientist claimed more than the evidence supports, we name who said it and quote them exactly. We rate the claim, not the person.
Corrections
We correct errors in the article itself and add a dated note at its foot saying what changed. When later research changes a rating, we update the label and say so. To report an error, write to [email protected].
